October 2025 Realtor Champion of the Month: SPAAR Candidate Interview Participants!

From mid-August to mid-September, SPAAR conducted its annual candidate endorsement process. This process includes sending a Government Affairs Committee-approved questionnaire to each candidate running for mayor, city council and county commissioner within SPAAR’s 12-county, 150+ city service area. Candidates in contested races who submit completed questionnaires are invited to interview with SPAAR member volunteers to discuss their positions on housing and real estate-related policy issues.

As 2025 is an off-year election—with no presidential, federal or state legislative races—SPAAR’s territory had few contested local elections; however, one significant exception was the race to become the next mayor of Saint Paul.

On September 16 and 17, a group of SPAAR member volunteers interviewed three of the five candidates running for Saint Paul mayor. During these interviews, volunteers asked thoughtful and probing questions on topics such as rent control, housing affordability and availability, and plans for revitalizing Saint Paul’s business community.

After careful review of the candidate questionnaires, consideration of interview responses and extensive deliberation, SPAAR members concluded that State Representative Kaohly Her is the best choice for Realtors® and for the City of Saint Paul.

SPAAR’s endorsement announcement states:

“SPAAR members have chosen to support Her’s campaign because of her extensive experience in the Minnesota Legislature, where she serves as the State Representative for House District 64A. Her plans to develop Saint Paul, expand housing opportunities, and focus on budget stewardship align with SPAAR’s policy positions.”
