Focus on housing affordability: research from the Federal Reserve

SPAAR - 06/28/2026

The latest research and events with a focus on housing affordability from Community Development and Engagement at the Minneapolis Federal Reserve was recently reported, including the following:

St. Paul, Minnesota, entered the national housing discourse when voters approved rent stabilization in 2021. Five years later, in 2026, local developers’ perspectives on the city’s housing market are mixed. The Minneapolis Federal Reserve's new dashboard describes a city where the number of “missing middle” housing units is on the rise amid an overall decline in housing production.

The dashboard allows users to compare St. Paul to peer cities across the nation and to other cities in the seven-county Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro region.
