A consumer guide resource for members with a Fair Housing focus
SPAAR - 04/06/2026
This is the week that, 58 years ago, the Fair Housing Act was signed into law.
On April 11, 1968, the then-new act, which stands today, prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental and financing of housing based on race, religion, national origin and later amendments added sex, disability and familial status. Today, Fair Housing Month is celebrated by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and its members every April to commemorate its passage. NAR has resources available to members, including a consumer guide specific to fair housing.
Stayed tuned to local Fair Housing activities this month that will be rolled out through SPAAR’s newsletters and social media during April and beyond because fair housing, while celebrated this month, is ongoing year-round.
