The St. Paul Winter Carnival has been a 30-year family affair for SPAAR member Danielle Bickham Pelton
SPAAR - 12/02/2024
For Danielle Bickham Pelton and her family, the St. Paul Winter Carnival is more than a celebration. It’s a cherished, multi-generational tradition that began in 1994 when Danielle’s father first joined the Vulcans as the Prince of Soot, igniting the family’s spirit and excitement for the Winter Carnival.
In 2007, Danielle’s father was named Vulcanus Rex while his brother-in-law became King Boreas, embodying the legendary “brotherly” battle between Winter and Summer. This unique pairing turned the Carnival into a true family affair, with both sides coming together to represent their beloved city of St. Paul.
Danielle and her husband, Josh, also met in 2007 with the St. Paul Winter Carnival a common thread, which has grown stronger over the years. Josh joined the Vulcans in 2017 as the Count of Ashes marking his own year on the streets; he’s also served on the Fire & Brimstone Board of Directors and as President, continuing his commitment to the Carnival community. Danielle has played a central role from coordinating the Vulcan Christmas Party and organizing the Conclave Dinner, a hallmark Vulcan Fire & Brimstone event hosting nearly 400 guests, including dignitaries from Florida, Canada and other cities.
Today, Danielle and Josh’s daughters, Elliot and Evie, carry on this vibrant family tradition, growing up with the Carnival at the heart of their lives.
Danielle is thrilled to see the St. Paul Area Association of REALTORS® join forces with the Winter Carnival in 2025 as the major sponsor of the Grande Day Parade, bringing the community closer together. The 2025 King Boreas Grande Day will take place on Saturday, January 25, at 2pm, on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. There will be a SPAAR parade group; email spaar@spaar.com to learn more.
