An update following SPAAR’s Bylaws vote

SPAAR - 08/28/2024

SPAAR held a Bylaws vote from August 14-16, with both action items on the ballot passing per the member vote (all Realtor® members of SPAAR had the opportunity to vote).

Below are the vote results and a recap of the two actions that were voted upon.

Action 1 focused on the following as related to the SPAAR Bylaws:

  • 329 revisions, updates and clarifications to definitions and terms
  • Do not alter any operations, policies or otherwise change SPAAR’s governance
  • Changes “non-substantive” and are a matter of “housekeeping”

Action 2 focused on the following as related to the SPAAR Bylaws:

Changes that have a tangible impact on SPAAR’s operations and governance structure.

  • Update to reflect how affiliates are being billed for membership
  • Change to reflect board seats for the chairs of all standing committees
  • Update definition of “participant” and “MLS” to align with mandatory changes from NAR settlement
  • Add a provision that will allow licensed real estate agents and appraisers who are not REALTORS® to participate in the Regional Multiple Listing Service of Minnesota (NorthstarMLS)

The quorum requirements for a membership vote were met and the following are the results of the votes cast:

Action 1: PASSED with 89.44 % voting in favor

Action 2: PASSED with 66.44 % voting in favor

Since the vote, SPAAR has heard from members with questions about the results and what the future may look like for them.

The Bylaws vote was just one of the first steps in implementing these changes. Click here to read the updated FAQ, which answers a lot of the most frequent questions that SPAAR has received. The updated FAQ will continue to evolve as new questions come in to SPAAR.

SPAAR will continue to receive questions and provide answers during this process, which is a learning process for all parties -- members and the Associations alike. Additionally, SPAAR will continue to provide information about member-only benefits such as RPR, Legal Hotline, MNR Forms and more, and what benefits may apply to members as well as non-members.
