SPAAR’s Government Affairs wraps up a busy year
SPAAR - 12/30/2024
SPAAR’s Government Affairs Committee had a successful year in 2024. Through the continued work of the Housing Affordability Task Force, SPAAR hosted its second annual Housing Resource Fair with nearly 100 attendees and 19 participating organizations. The Task Force also sponsored two book clubs and have more planned in 2025.
SPAAR’s Key Communities program was also busy. SPAAR received $27,000 dedicated to wayfinding, placemaking and home improvement projects within the Association’s jurisdiction that provided support to the communities of Blaine, Coon Rapids and Farmington. This program will continue in 2025 with three new communities; stay tuned for the announcement of those communities.
Advocacy was a top priority for the Government Affairs Committee during the year. SPAAR continued building relationships with local elected officials through the candidate endorsement process with 15 of the 21 endorsed candidates winning in their respective races. SPAAR also advocated on behalf of members on many issues related to the housing market and real estate industry including petitioning for rent control amendments, encouraging accessory dwelling units, and promoting zoning changes to boost inventory.
The Government Affairs Committee looks forward to another busy year in 2025!
