Thrive MSP 2040 is an initiative set forth by the Metropolitan Council, the regional policy-making body, planning agency, and provider of essential services for the Twin Cities, and an organization in which SPAAR is a partner. In fact, built in to SPAAR’s 2021-23 strategic plan is the following objective:
  • To become a top-of-mind resource for Met Council representatives and staff aides on information, data and industry perspective related to housing and other community issues.
The Thrive MSP 2040 initiative is the vision for the region over the next 20 years and puts an emphasis on transportation, water resources, regional parks and housing policies in the Metro area. The Met Council regions consists of 186 communities across seven counties, much of which is in SPAAR’s jurisdiction. Each city must prepare and submit a local comprehensive plan for approval. Once approved, the city must adopt the changes and frequently revisit the plan to make sure they are following the initiatives they’ve outlined.
The comprehensive plans help to create a standard across the Twin Cities Metro Region and help keep the area nationally and internationally competitive. Visit the Met Council for more information on the Thrive MSP 2040 Plan or your local community’s comprehensive plan.
