In Memoriam: SPAAR remembers Tom Wiener

SPAAR - 12/01/2025

SPAAR is deeply saddened by the news of Tom Wiener’s death on November 26.

Tom was an active member of SPAAR for decades and known to members and staff alike.

Tom served as SPAAR president in 2015 and also served as treasurer multiple times. He was one of the founding members of SPAAR’s Finance Committee on which he served from 2012-2014 and in 2024. Tom has also been part of SPAAR’s Board of Directors in several capacities spanning from 2010 to 2024.

Tom’s service is not only historic; he came out of leadership retirement to serve as the association’s treasurer on the Board of Directors in 2024. This was a year marked by significant change, including the death of SPAAR’s CEO, John Fridlington; the hiring of a new CEO, Gabe Walsh; and major industry changes impacting SPAAR and its members. Tom’s experience and steady leadership through this period was invaluable and many of SPAAR's staff and volunteer leaders will forever hold extraordinary gratitude for the role Tom played during this pivotal period.

“Tom's leadership made a lasting impact on SPAAR,” said Jennifer Livingston, 2025 SPAAR President as well as the office manager of Cardinal Realty where she worked alongside Tom for decades. “As a past president and later an Emeritus member, Tom led with honesty, calm steadiness and a true passion for this industry. He served on countless committees throughout the years and helped to shape financial policies that SPAAR still uses today. His willingness to mentor others, myself included, guided so many Realtors® throughout their careers. SPAAR is stronger because of Tom, and his legacy will continue to influence us for years to come.”

Tom received SPAAR’s Distinguished Service Award in 2013 and again in 2024. In 2017, Tom was honored with SPAAR’s REALTOR® of the Year award. In addition, his years of service earned him his Realtor® Emeritus membership status through the National Association of REALTORS®.

“Tom was a champion of SPAAR and the Realtor® community for many decades and his lasting legacy will continue to shine in the industry,” said Gabe Walsh, SPAAR’s CEO. “Tom’s intellect, calm and steady leadership are irreplaceable. What I will always remember him for the most is his belief, encouragement and empowerment of everyone around him to grow into better people and leaders. We will forever miss his wisdom and friendly face at SPAAR.”

SPAAR sends its deepest condolences to Tom’s wife, June; his children, Laura and Tony; to the entire Wiener and Cardinal families; and to the countless others who he touched on his incredible journey.
