Where to? Rondo Avenue!

The City of Saint Paul restored street name Rondo Avenue in a ceremony at Rondo Commemorative Plaza held April 30.

Speakers at the event included St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter, Ward 1 City Council Member Anika Bowie and Marvin Anderson, co-founder of Rondo Avenue, Inc. Rondo Avenue runs through the historic Black neighborhood that was destroyed during construction of Interstate 94.

Studies are underway for a proposed land bridge that would span the Interstate and reconnect the neighborhood. The federal government is simultaneously studying plans for rebuilding I-94 through the area. One proposal would replace the Rondo stretch of Interstate with a surface boulevard to recapture land for development.
