In celebration, here are four fun facts about donuts.

 

1 - Donuts Arrive In America

One of the earliest accounts of donuts is attributed to Dutch settlers, who brought them to New York around 1809.

 

2 - Donuts On The Front Lines

During WWI, Salvation Army volunteers served donuts to the troops on the front lines and would use war helmets as a utensil to fry the donuts.

 

3 - Origins of Donut Day

Donut Day was established in 1938 to honor the Salvation Army volunteers, who aided the soldiers in WWI.

 

4 - Krispy Kreme

According to a survey, Krispy Kreme is America's favorite donut chain.
