St. Paul Tenant Protection Ordinance Update

*UPDATE* Vote has been postponed and rescheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 24

Saint Paul’s proposed Tenant Protection Ordinance will be discussed in a city council meeting on Wednesday, June 3 at 3:30 p.m.

The ordinance was introduced in response to St. Paul’s housing shortage.  This ordinance creates a chapter of rights for renters.  These rights include limits on security deposits and applicant screening guidelines for prospective tenants.  Full text of the proposed ordinance is here:

SPAAR Advocacy staff has requested delaying a vote on this ordinance.  SPAAR has proposed amendments to improve the ordinance.  SPAAR is committed to partnering with the city moving forward to advance housing equity.

Currently, a vote on the ordinance is scheduled for June 10, 2020.
