Course Catalog

The Association offers a variety of continuing education opportunities to maximize your time and money. The Saint Paul Area Association of REALTORS® is committed to bringing its members relevant and exciting continuing education opportunities.

Continuing education courses must be attended in their entirety in order to receive credit for the number of approved hours (MN Statute 45.30 Subd.4a).  Students are required to sign-in prior to class start to receive continuing education credits.  Students must provide a cancellation request within 24 hours to the class to receive a refund for the class.  Students who cancel after, do not show up, or who arrive late for class will not receive a refund.

SPAAR No-Show Fee Policy

A no-show fee will be charged to members who do not cancel their registration for free course offerings 24 hours in advance of the class. Staff will review extenuating circumstances on a case by case basis. The purpose of this fee is to encourage cancellation prior to the class freeing up registrations for other members.

Agency & Fair Housing

This course covers Agency Law and Fair Housing. It is designed to give real estate salespersons and brokers the basic understanding of the following:

  • Agency Law in Minnesota. This includes the historic evolution in Minnesota, agency terms, fiduciary duties, relationships in Minnesota, and contracts in Minnesota Agency.
  • Fair Housing Laws. This last section addresses the legal history, protected classes, and prohibited actions. Attendees will examine a Code of Ethics case study and complete an exercise that looks at the Fair Housing implications of two consumers’ real estate experiences.

Beyond the Basics in NorthstarMLS

Beyond the Basics in NorthstarMLS is designed to help REALTORS® with features that NorthstarMLS has to make them more knowledgeable and have information available to them immediately when their clients need it. Allows them to learn these features with hands-on experience, live class to do things as the instructor is and be able to understand the quality and uses for each of these services available to them.

Comparative Market Analysis in NorthstarMLS

CMA in NorthstarMLS is designed to help REALTORS® get started with using the CMA tool in NorthstarMLS for listings.  REALTORS® will gain a better understanding how the steps involved in the process can provide them the ability to make an outstanding presentation to their clients and customers.  This class is a hands-on experience; each student should have their own computer and MLS access.

Instanet / Authentisign

Instanet/Authentisign 102 is designed to provide REALTORS® with all the online forms in the MLS that are available to provide their customers with a paperless environment.  Students will learn how to start a transaction online and send to clients for a complete paperless transaction.  Students will understand how to use Instanet and Authentisign and to create a “cost effective and paperless” environment for their clients.  This is a hands-on experience; each student is encouraged to have their own computer and login.

NAR Code of Ethics for Existing Members

Professional Courtesies in a Tight Market

While the NAR Code of Ethics establishes objective, enforceable ethical standards that govern the professional conduct of REALTORS®, it does not address issues of courtesy or etiquette. This one-hour course looks at Professional Courtesies REALTORS® are encouraged to follow to show respect for the consumers (the public), property and peers. We’ll focus especially on those areas where dealing with historic low inventory adds a variety of pressure – and sometimes bad behavior – to the business of residential real estate and offer recommended practices that attendees can immediately implement to enhance their professionalism and protect consumers and property.

Real Estate Safety Matters

This one-hour course will instill safety awareness and habits in real estate professionals. They will learn methods for averting or responding to dangerous situations they—and the consumer clients and customers they serve—may encounter when practicing their profession. Attendees will learn safe practices for showing properties, conducting open houses, meeting with prospective clients, using social media and smart phone technologies and protecting personal data. They will also learn how to quickly assess a potentially dangerous situation and take appropriate action. Lastly, the class will also identify safety tools and resources real estate professionals can use to implement their own safety best practices.

Realist Tax Intro

Realist Tax Intro is designed to introduce REALTORS® to the tax database in NorthstarMLS. This class covers the basic features every Realist user should know to use this software proficiently.
